Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Mission Statement

To honor the lived experience of disempowered and marginalized communities and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through:

  1. Disseminating information and collaborating with community partners devoted to civil rights advocacy
  2. Endorsing changes in public policy that are consistent with DEI values
  3. Expanding models of the self and treatment that bring in traditional and non-traditional healing modalities
  4. Promoting a better understanding of the intersectionality between psychology and social justice through exploring paradigms of power, privilege, colonization, and oppression
  5. Creating a safe, inclusive space for mental health professionals and community members to explore their own identities and implicit biases
  6. Balancing general narrative with individual narrative to assist in improving psychotherapy process and outcome

UPDATED FEBRUARY 22, 2026

Since our last update in February 2025, we have seen the negative and harmful impact the current political landscape continues to have on disenfranchised communities, particularly immigrants and LGBTQIA+ individuals. As a clinician, you have experienced this impact directly on a personal level or vicariously through your clients' experiences. It is a crucial time for SCPA and its clinicians to continue to focus on fulfilling our mission of providing therapeutic care with cultural humility and allow our clients to feel safe and heard in the space we provide them. The DEI committee has put together a list of helpful resources to foster this mission of increasing awareness and understanding as well as offer community resources.
